Clear coat over factory paint?

I have a 31year old motorcycle. The paint is still in pretty good shape as are the factory decals. I was wondering if I could touch up the small nicks and scratches, sand it with some 1600 wet and dry and shoot it with a couple coats of new clear coat. Seems to me that this would freshen the old girl up. Would this work or am I missing something?Clear coat over factory paint?
If your bike is that old, it may have not had clear originally but in any case putting clear over it now should make it look a little sharper. You were right in sanding before painting and be careful not to sand too hard.Clear coat over factory paint?
