Is the paint on my 1987 mercedes 560sl base coat clear coat from the factory?

The best answer would come from a mercedes dealership. He or She will be able to direct you to the refinishing shop there. All the refinishing covers from factory for every model of their cars are coded and documented. The Mercedes factory(s) are very strict about that sort of thing. Is the paint on my 1987 mercedes 560sl base coat clear coat from the factory?
You lost me. What do you need to know? Are you asking if the clear coat on your car is the original one or was it put on later? Maybe it's just me, but I do not understand the question. Is the paint on my 1987 mercedes 560sl base coat clear coat from the factory?
Yes. I think that's all there is to say about the subject.
It's pretty unlikely your 20 -year-old SL is wearing its original paint, however, if it is, yes, it's clear over base. The number of coats will depend on if it is Euro spec or North American Spec and if the finish if BASF or Du Pont, this also depends on point of export, etc. A body shop can tell you what your current finish is.
Should be,they use 8 coats clearcoat as opposed to one coat on US/Mexico made cars.
it would for sure be base coat clear from the factory. the question is has it been wrecked and repainted or has some of it been repainted. example. if someone brings in a Benz to the shop and it is white i will use single stage black the same way. some reds also.
